The Palisades is retaining wall country. Between the canyon roads and the bluff lots, most properties here have a grade change big enough that the usable yard has to be built rather than simply landscaped. We spend more time on engineered walls in this neighbourhood than anywhere else we work, and more time with geotechnical reports, because on these slopes what the soil is doing matters more than what the wall looks like. The finish still has to be right, and on Palisades homes that usually means full-bed natural stone rather than veneer.

What We Build in Pacific Palisades

Terraced hillside retaining walls, often two or three tiers stepping down a canyon lot, each with its own drainage. Boulder staircases and stone steps cut into slopes where a ramp would be unusable. Flagstone terraces and pool surrounds that have to sit dead level on ground that does not. Outdoor fireplaces and full kitchens on view decks. We also do a lot of stucco repair on older Spanish and ranch homes here, where hillside drainage and irrigation have been working on the walls for decades.

Engineering is the norm

Almost every retaining wall we build in the Palisades is over four feet or carries a surcharge, which means stamped drawings and inspections. We manage the engineer and the permit.

Drainage decides everything

Canyon lots collect water from above. Behind every wall we install filter fabric, clean gravel, and pipe routed to daylight, and we look at where the neighbour's runoff goes too.

Access and staging

Narrow canyon roads and steep drives limit equipment size. We plan staging and material delivery before the schedule is set, not after.
