Masonry Services for Brentwood Homes and Businesses

We are a licensed and insured masonry crew working throughout Brentwood. Brick, stone, concrete, stucco, and pavers, quoted flat-rate after a free on-site visit and built by the same people who priced the job.

Masonry Contractors in Brentwood

Brentwood work tends to be detail-driven. The houses are larger, the landscape architects are often already involved, and the expectation is that masonry is executed to a drawing rather than improvised on site. That suits us. We work comfortably from plans, we mock up stone and mortar before committing to an elevation, and our crew chiefs deal with architects and designers directly. North of San Vicente the lots start to climb, so retaining walls and terracing enter the picture alongside the finish work.

What We Build in Brentwood

Full-bed stone veneer facades and entry surrounds, cut stone steps, and cobblestone motor courts. Flagstone terraces and pool decks laid to a designer's pattern. Engineered retaining walls on the canyon-side lots, usually stone-faced so the structure disappears. Outdoor fireplaces and kitchens built into covered loggias. On the older estates we do restoration brick work as well, including tuckpointing and rebuilding chimneys and garden walls that predate most of the street.

Local Conditions We Build For

We build to drawings

Submittals, samples, and mock-ups are routine here. We coordinate with the landscape architect and the GC rather than working around them.

Material quality shows

On these houses thin veneer gives itself away at every corner. We quote full-bed stone where the design allows and explain the cost difference honestly.

Slope on the north side

Lots above Sunset frequently need engineered walls and terracing. Same rules as the Palisades: drawings, drainage, and inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work from a landscape architect's drawings?

Regularly. We handle submittals, samples, and mock-ups, and our crew chiefs coordinate with the designer and general contractor directly rather than routing questions through an office.

Full-bed stone or veneer for a Brentwood facade?

Full-bed where the detailing allows, because veneer shows itself at corners, sills, and returns on houses at this level. We price both and explain exactly where the difference will be visible.

How much does a masonry contractor charge?

Pricing on the Westside is per square foot rather than per day. Brick and stone run about $10 to $45 a square foot installed, concrete flatwork about $6 to $15, and most residential jobs we quote land between $1,500 and $10,000. What moves a Santa Monica estimate most is access: a back garden reached through a side gate takes hours of barrowing that a driveway pour does not. Estimates are free and done on site.

What is the difference between a mason and a general contractor?

A general contractor runs the whole project and buys in the trades. A mason is one of those trades, the one that handles brick, stone, block, concrete and stucco. If your project is a wall, a patio, a driveway or a chimney, coming to us directly skips the management markup. On a remodel with framing, plumbing and electrical in it you want a general contractor, and we are happy to work under one.

How long does a masonry project take?

Most of our Santa Monica work is one to two weeks on site. A paver patio is two to five days, a garden wall three to seven, a driveway replacement about a week once you count the cure. Outdoor kitchens run two to four weeks because the gas and electrical have to be sequenced. The part that varies is the front end: anything that goes to plan check adds weeks before we break ground.

Do you need a permit for masonry work?

Often, yes. Retaining walls taller than four feet from the bottom of the footing need one, as does any wall holding up a driveway or a structure. Outdoor kitchens with a gas line or a circuit need one. Work in the public right of way, which includes your sidewalk and driveway apron, is permitted separately. Low garden walls, patios and like-for-like repairs generally are not. We pull whatever the job needs.

Plenty more of what we get asked, grouped by trade, sits on the masonry questions page.
